Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the 5k — 5000 English Words mobile app (“5k”, “the app”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it short and human-readable.

1. Who we are

5k is operated by LinguaCap (“we”, “us”, “our”), the data controller for the personal data described below. You can reach us anytime at support@linguacap.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the app and sync your learning.

Account information

If you choose to create an account, you sign in with Google or Apple. We receive a basic profile — typically your email address and, where provided, your name. We do not receive or store your Google/Apple password. You can use much of the app without an account.

Learning data

To save and sync your progress we store your study activity: the words and levels you've learned, review history, daily goals, streaks, and related settings.

Device & technical data

To operate the service and sync across devices we process a device identifier generated by the app, your platform (iOS/Android), app version, language settings, and standard server logs such as IP address and request timestamps.

Subscription data

Purchases of 5k Premium are handled by the App Store or Google Play and processed through RevenueCat, our subscription provider. We receive your subscription status (active/expired and plan) but never your full card or payment details — those stay with Apple, Google and their payment processors.

Usage analytics

We use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand how features are used (for example, which screens are opened and whether a session was completed) so we can improve the app. This data is aggregated and used to make the product better, not to identify you personally.

3. How we use your information

• To provide the app and its core features (flashcards, quizzes, spaced repetition).
• To save your progress and sync it across the devices where you sign in.
• To manage your account and your Premium subscription.
• To send optional study reminders if you enable notifications.
• To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and keep the service secure.
• To understand usage in aggregate and improve the product.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Legal bases (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the app and sync your data), legitimate interests (to secure, maintain and improve the service), consent (for example, push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), and legal obligations where applicable.

5. How we share information

We share data only with service providers that help us run 5k, and only as needed:

• Google and Apple — authentication when you sign in.
• RevenueCat, Apple App Store and Google Play — managing and validating subscriptions.
• Hosting and infrastructure providers — to store data and run our servers.
• Analytics provider — to process aggregated usage statistics.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users or the public.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and learning data while your account is active so your progress is available across devices. If you delete your account, we delete your associated personal data, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.

7. Your rights & choices

• Delete your account: you can permanently delete your account and its data directly in the app (Profile → Delete account). This removes your synced learning data from our servers.
• Access, correction and portability: you may request a copy of your data or ask us to correct it.
• Notifications: turn study reminders on or off in your device settings at any time.
• Subscriptions: manage or cancel Premium through your App Store or Google Play account.

To exercise any of these rights, contact support@linguacap.com. Depending on your region, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

We protect data in transit with HTTPS/TLS and apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to safeguard it. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to it.

9. Children

5k is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable law.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
